Vinyl Nitrile foam is a flexible foam based on a combination of nitrile rubber and PVC. It is also commonly described as PVC/NBR foam, NBR/PVC foam or rubber-plastic sponge foam.
The referenced product grade has a soft closed-cell structure. This provides a combination of flexibility, thermal insulation, water vapor resistance and compression characteristics useful for sealing and insulation applications.
Compared with solid nitrile rubber, the cellular structure reduces weight and allows the material to compress more easily around uneven surfaces, making it suitable for foam gaskets, seals, cushioning pads and vibration-isolation components.
PVC/NBR foam can be supplied in different densities and thicknesses and converted into sheets, rolls, strips, tapes, pads and die-cut parts.
Flexible PVC/NBR foam can conform to mating surfaces when compressed, making it suitable for selected gasket and sealing applications.
The foam can be die-cut into custom shapes according to equipment housings, automotive components, panels and other assemblies. Density and thickness should be selected according to the gap size, compression force and required sealing performance.
Adhesive backing can be added to suitable foam gaskets and sealing strips to help position the component during assembly.
One reason Vinyl Nitrile foam is selected for industrial and automotive applications is its resistance to acid, fuel and oil as listed in the existing product information.
Chemical compatibility depends on the specific fluid, concentration, exposure time, temperature and foam grade. Applications involving continuous or critical chemical contact should therefore be evaluated according to the actual service conditions.
The referenced closed-cell grade has thermal conductivity of 0.038 W/m·K according to the supplied technical table. The cellular structure reduces heat transfer and makes the material suitable for selected HVAC, refrigeration and equipment insulation applications.
For insulation systems, foam thickness should be selected according to operating temperature, ambient conditions, equipment geometry and the required thermal performance.
The referenced Vinyl Nitrile foam grade has a closed-cell structure and a listed water vapor resistance index of ≥7000. These characteristics support applications where limiting moisture penetration is important.
For HVAC and low-temperature insulation systems, joints, seams and exposed edges should be installed according to the requirements of the complete insulation system.
Flexible Vinyl Nitrile foam can be used as a cushioning interface between components. Under suitable compression, it can reduce direct contact and help attenuate vibration transmitted through equipment panels, automotive assemblies and other structures.
Required foam density and thickness depend on the component weight, available compression and vibration conditions of the assembly.
| Application | Typical Function |
| Industrial Gaskets | Compressible sealing between suitable mating surfaces. |
| Sealing Strips | Flexible gap sealing and cushioning around panels and assemblies. |
| Automotive Components | Seals, pads, cushioning parts, anti-rattle components and vibration-control interfaces. |
| HVAC Systems | Thermal insulation, duct components, sealing and vibration isolation. |
| Refrigeration Equipment | Flexible thermal insulation and moisture-resistant foam components. |
| Mechanical Equipment | Cushioning, sealing, spacing and vibration damping. |
| Acoustic Applications | Selected sound and vibration-control components depending on foam grade and assembly design. |
| Adhesive Foam Parts | Self-adhesive tapes, strips, pads and die-cut parts for easier positioning during assembly. |
Vinyl Nitrile PVC/NBR foam can be supplied as raw material or converted into application-specific components.
| Product Form | Typical Requirement |
| Foam Sheet | General fabrication, gasket production, insulation and cushioning. |
| Foam Roll | Continuous material for slitting, lamination and large-area applications. |
| Foam Strip | Sealing, gap filling, cushioning and vibration isolation. |
| Foam Tape | Adhesive-backed strips for positioning and assembly. |
| Die-Cut Gasket | Customized sealing shapes according to drawings. |
| Foam Pad | Cushioning, spacing and vibration-control interfaces. |
| Comparison | Vinyl Nitrile PVC/NBR Foam | Solid Nitrile Rubber |
| Structure | Cellular foam structure | Solid elastomer structure |
