Cell Structure Selection for NBR/PVC Sponge Foam

NBR/PVC foam can be produced in different cellular structures. Open-cell and closed-cell materials behave differently under compression and should be selected according to the finished application.

Comparison Open-Cell Foam Closed-Cell Foam
Compression Generally softer and easier to compress Generally firmer depending on grade
Gap Conformability Well suited to irregular gaps and low compression loads Suitable where greater sealing pressure is acceptable
Moisture Resistance Depends on the complete sealing structure Generally preferred where resistance to fluid penetration through the foam is required
Typical Function Gap filling, cushioning, acoustics and low-force contact Environmental sealing, insulation and moisture-resistant gasketing

For applications specifically requiring open-cell slow-rebound foam, confirm that the selected NBR/PVC grade and supporting technical data correspond to that cell structure before production.

Slow Rebound Foam for Irregular Gap Filling

Irregular mating surfaces can create variable gaps that are difficult to fill with rigid or high-compression materials. A soft sponge foam can deform around these differences and maintain contact over a larger surface area.

Slow rebound behavior is useful where the foam needs to remain compressed temporarily during installation before recovering toward the mating surfaces. The required recovery rate should be matched to the assembly process and finished sealing requirement.

Thickness selection is particularly important for gap filling. The foam should provide sufficient compression range without being excessively compressed in the final assembly.

Low Compression Foam for Lightweight Assemblies

Soft NBR/PVC sponge foam can be considered where mating components cannot tolerate high closure force. Typical examples include lightweight panels, plastic housings, thin sheet-metal components and other assemblies that may deform under excessive gasket pressure.

The referenced technical table lists compression deflection of ≤5.0 kPa, with a recorded result of 2.9 kPa. Final compression performance should be confirmed for the selected production grade.

NBR/PVC Sponge Foam for Vibration and Noise Reduction

Flexible sponge foam can act as a soft interface between components and help reduce direct contact, vibration transmission and rattling noise.

These properties make NBR/PVC foam suitable for selected automotive interiors, equipment housings, appliances, HVAC assemblies and other applications where cushioning and vibration isolation are required.

Typical Slow Rebound NBR/PVC Foam Applications

Application Typical Function
Gap Filling Fills variable spaces between irregular or non-flat mating surfaces.
Equipment Sealing Provides soft compression contact around equipment panels and assemblies.

Custom Sheets, Rolls, Strips and Die-Cut Parts

Topsun can convert NBR/PVC sponge foam into different formats according to customer drawings and installation requirements.

Slow Rebound NBR/PVC Sponge Foam FAQ

What is slow rebound NBR/PVC sponge foam?

Slow rebound NBR/PVC sponge foam is a soft compressible foam material used where gradual recovery, cushioning, gap filling or low-force contact is required. The exact rebound behavior should be confirmed for the selected product grade.

Is this NBR/PVC foam open cell?

The product is listed as Open Cell Slow Rebound NBR/PVC Sponge Foam, while the existing technical content associated with the product family also includes closed-cell material data. For applications requiring specifically open-cell construction, confirm the selected grade and corresponding technical specification before ordering.

What is slow rebound foam used for?

Typical applications include irregular gap filling, soft sealing interfaces, cushioning, anti-rattle components, vibration damping, equipment panels and custom foam gaskets.

Why use slow rebound foam for irregular gaps?

A soft compressible foam can deform around uneven surfaces and variable gaps. Gradual recovery can also provide additional handling time during assembly before the foam expands toward the mating surfaces.

What is the density of the referenced NBR/PVC foam?

The broader product range lists densities from 50–150 kg/m³. The referenced technical data lists a 50–90 kg/m³ specification with a recorded result of 63.5 kg/m³.

What thicknesses are available?

The current product information lists thicknesses from 1–50 mm. The appropriate thickness depends on the available gap, intended compression and finished component design.

What is the compression deflection of the referenced grade?

The existing technical table lists compression deflection of ≤5.0 kPa according to ASTM D 1056, with a recorded test result of 2.9 kPa.

Can slow rebound NBR/PVC foam reduce vibration and rattling?

Flexible sponge foam can be used as a cushioning interface between components to help reduce vibration transmission and direct contact noise. Actual performance depends on density, thickness, compression and assembly design.

Can NBR/PVC sponge foam be die-cut into custom gaskets?

Yes. Topsun provides cutting and die-cutting capabilities for suitable foam materials. Custom strips, pads, gaskets and shaped components can be evaluated according to drawings or samples.

Can adhesive backing be added?

Yes. Existing product information lists one-side and double-side adhesive options. The bonding substrate and service environment should be provided when selecting the adhesive construction.

What information should I provide for material selection?

Please provide the required cell structure, minimum and maximum gap, foam thickness, density if known, required compression force, rebound requirement, operating environment, adhesive requirement, finished dimensions and estimated quantity.

How can I request a sample or quotation?

Send your requirements to july@topsunfoam.com, including thickness, density if known, cell structure, application, gap dimensions, compression requirements and estimated quantity for evaluation.
