What Is Self-Adhesive NBR/PVC Rubber Foam?

Self-adhesive closed cell NBR PVC rubber foam sheet and roll

NBR/PVC foam is a flexible rubber-based foam material commonly used in thermal insulation, sealing and vibration-control applications. The referenced product grade uses a closed-cell structure that supports low thermal conductivity and resistance to water vapor penetration.

Adding a self-adhesive layer converts the foam into a material that can be positioned directly onto suitable prepared surfaces. This is particularly useful on metal ducts, equipment panels and other applications where easier installation and positioning are required.

Topsun can provide one-side or double-side adhesive constructions according to the finished application. The adhesive surface should be matched to the substrate and installation environment.

The broader Topsun NBR/PVC range includes different density and cell-structure options. The technical table on this page specifically identifies the referenced grade as closed-cell foam.

Self-Adhesive NBR/PVC Foam for HVAC Duct Insulation

HVAC ductwork is one of the primary applications for flexible self-adhesive NBR/PVC foam. The material can be cut and positioned on suitable metal duct surfaces where thermal insulation and moisture resistance are required.

The adhesive backing helps hold the foam in position during installation, while the flexible structure allows the material to follow flat surfaces, corners and selected curved duct sections.

With a listed thermal conductivity of 0.038 W/m·K and water vapor resistance index of ≥7000 for the referenced grade, the material can be considered for HVAC insulation systems where heat transfer and moisture penetration need to be controlled.

NBR/PVC Foam for Refrigeration and Chilled-Water Applications

Flexible closed-cell NBR/PVC foam is also used around refrigeration equipment, chilled-water systems and other insulation applications where low thermal conductivity and resistance to water vapor penetration are important.

Self-adhesive sheet or roll material can be cut into suitable shapes for equipment panels, large surfaces and other locations where preformed insulation components are not practical.

Insulation thickness should be selected according to the equipment, operating conditions, ambient environment and condensation-control requirements of the project.

Self-Adhesive NBR/PVC Foam for Sealing and Vibration Damping

In addition to thermal insulation, flexible NBR/PVC foam can be used as a cushioning or isolation layer between suitable components.

Its elasticity can help attenuate vibration at joints, suspensions, panels and equipment interfaces. Adhesive backing allows strips, pads and converted components to be positioned during assembly.

For sealing applications, the required density, compression, thickness and adhesive construction should be selected according to the actual joint geometry and service environment.

Typical Applications of Self-Adhesive NBR/PVC Foam

Application Typical Function
HVAC Ducts Flexible thermal insulation and moisture-resistant covering for suitable duct surfaces.
Refrigeration Equipment Thermal insulation for suitable equipment surfaces and refrigeration assemblies.
Chilled-Water Systems Insulation where low thermal conductivity and resistance to water vapor penetration are required.
Equipment Panels Insulation, cushioning and vibration-control layers.
Metal Duct Components Self-adhesive backing supports positioning on suitable prepared metal surfaces.
Industrial Sealing Converted strips, pads and gaskets for suitable compression and sealing applications.
Vibration Control Flexible isolation layer at joints, suspensions, equipment interfaces and panel assemblies.
Automotive Components Selected insulation, cushioning and adhesive-backed foam components.

One-Side vs. Double-Side Adhesive NBR/PVC Foam

Adhesive Option Typical Use
One-Side Adhesive Used where one foam surface needs to be attached to a duct, panel, equipment surface or other suitable substrate.
Double-Side Adhesive Used where the foam needs to be positioned between two suitable surfaces or assembled as part of a layered component.

Adhesive performance depends on the bonding surface, contamination, temperature, moisture and other installation conditions. The substrate and service environment should be provided when discussing a custom adhesive-backed product.

Closed-Cell NBR/PVC Foam for Moisture Control

The referenced NBR/PVC grade has a closed-cell structure. Instead of a network of interconnected pores, the foam contains cells that are predominantly isolated from each other.

This structure supports resistance to water vapor penetration and makes closed-cell NBR/PVC suitable for insulation applications where moisture ingress can affect thermal performance.

Correct installation remains important. Joints, seams and exposed edges should be handled according to the design requirements of the complete insulation system.

How to Select Self-Adhesive NBR/PVC Foam

Buyers should select NBR/PVC foam according to the complete application rather than thickness alone.

  • Application: HVAC duct, refrigeration equipment, sealing, vibration control or another industrial use.

  • Cell structure: confirm whether the project requires the referenced closed-cell grade or another NBR/PVC foam type.

  • Density: specify the required grade where already known.

  • Thickness: select according to insulation, sealing or cushioning requirements.
