Product Description
Topsun open cell EPDM foam sheet is a soft, flexible sponge rubber material designed for cushioning, sound absorption, vibration damping, gap filling, protective padding and low-compression industrial applications. It is widely used in automotive interiors, electronics, home appliances, construction, HVAC equipment, manufacturing lines and protective packaging.
EPDM rubber provides good ageing, weathering, UV and ozone resistance. The open-cell structure makes the foam soft and easy to compress, allowing it to conform to irregular surfaces and absorb vibration, impact and sound.
Topsun can supply open cell EPDM foam as sheets, rolls, strips, pads, tapes and custom die-cut parts. Density, thickness, sheet dimensions, adhesive backing and converted shapes can be customized according to drawings, samples and application requirements.
Open-cell sponge rubber structure for soft compression and cushioning.
Soft to the touch and easy to compress under relatively low loads.
Good sound absorption and vibration damping performance.
Suitable for gap filling, cushioning pads and protective foam components.
Excellent ageing performance for long-term industrial applications.
Good resistance to weathering, UV exposure and ozone.
Multiple densities and thicknesses available for different applications.
Can be cut into sheets, strips, pads, gaskets and custom shapes.
Available with optional adhesive backing for easier positioning and assembly.
Open cell EPDM foam sheet is particularly suitable when a component needs softness, conformability and low compression force rather than a rigid sealing material. The interconnected cell structure allows the foam to compress around uneven surfaces and absorb mechanical energy.
This makes open cell EPDM useful for anti-rattle pads, acoustic components, vibration-control pads, appliance cushioning, equipment interfaces, protective inserts and custom foam components.
For applications requiring a strict water-tight or air-tight environmental seal, the required cell structure and compression conditions should be confirmed before material selection. Closed-cell EPDM may be more appropriate for demanding moisture or air sealing applications.
The following technical data covers several EPDM foam grades. Actual product specifications should be confirmed according to the selected density, thickness and application requirements before ordering.

EPDM stands for Ethylene Propylene Diene Monomer. EPDM foam is a synthetic sponge rubber material widely used because of its flexibility, durability and resistance to ageing, ozone and weather exposure.
In open cell EPDM foam, the internal cells are interconnected. This structure makes the material relatively soft and easy to compress compared with many closed-cell foam materials.
Because of this structure, open cell EPDM is particularly useful for cushioning, sound absorption, vibration damping, gap filling and applications where the foam must conform to irregular surfaces with limited compression force.
Topsun can process EPDM foam sheet into rolls, strips, tapes, pads, blocks and custom die-cut components. Customers can provide dimensions, CAD drawings, samples or application details for material selection and fabrication.
Choosing between open cell and closed cell EPDM depends mainly on the required compression, cushioning and sealing performance.
| Comparison | Open Cell EPDM Foam | Closed Cell EPDM Foam |
| Cell Structure | Interconnected cells | Predominantly sealed cells |
| Compression | Soft and easy to compress | Generally firmer |
| Typical Function | Cushioning, acoustics, vibration damping and gap filling | Environmental sealing and weather stripping |
| Surface Conformability | Good for irregular surfaces and low compression loads | Suitable when stronger sealing pressure is acceptable |
| Typical Applications | Automotive interiors, electronics, appliances and acoustic components | Outdoor seals, weather strips and moisture-resistant gaskets |

Open cell EPDM foam sheet is a soft sponge rubber material made from EPDM rubber with interconnected cells. It is commonly used for cushioning, sound absorption, vibration damping, gap filling, protective padding and custom foam components.
Typical applications include automotive interior pads, appliance cushioning, electronics protection, HVAC vibration control, construction gap filling, acoustic components, packaging protection and custom die-cut foam parts.
Open cell EPDM contains interconnected cells and is generally softer and easier to compress, making it suitable for cushioning, acoustic and vibration-control applications. Closed cell EPDM is generally more suitable when stronger resistance to moisture and environmental sealing is required.
Open cell foam has interconnected pores, so it should not automatically be considered a waterproof or airtight material. For applications requiring strict environmental sealing, provide the required conditions so the appropriate EPDM foam structure can be selected.
EPDM rubber offers good resistance to ageing, ozone, UV exposure and weathering. Final suitability depends on the selected foam grade, compression conditions, moisture exposure and operating environment.
