Product Description

Open Cell EPDM Foam with Adhesive for Gaskets and Industrial Assembly

Topsun open cell EPDM foam with adhesive combines soft, low-compression EPDM sponge rubber with an adhesive backing for easier positioning, installation and assembly. It is suitable for automotive gaskets, cushioning pads, anti-rattle components, vibration damping, sound absorption, gap filling and other industrial foam applications.

The open-cell EPDM structure provides softness, flexibility and low compression force, while EPDM rubber offers good ageing, weathering, UV and ozone resistance. Adhesive backing allows the foam to be positioned directly onto compatible surfaces during assembly, helping simplify installation of foam strips, pads, gaskets and die-cut parts.

Topsun can supply adhesive-backed open cell EPDM foam in sheets, rolls, strips, tapes, pads and customized shapes. Density, thickness, dimensions, adhesive lamination and converting method can be selected according to the customer's drawing, sample and application requirements.

Open Cell EPDM Foam with Adhesive Features

  • Open-cell EPDM sponge rubber structure with soft compression characteristics.

  • Soft to the touch and suitable for low compression load applications.

  • Adhesive backing helps simplify positioning and installation during assembly.

  • Suitable for custom cutting into gaskets, pads, strips, tapes and other foam parts.

  • Good vibration damping, cushioning and sound absorption performance.

  • Excellent ageing performance for long-term industrial applications.

  • Good weathering, UV and ozone resistance associated with EPDM rubber.

  • Multiple densities and thicknesses are available for different applications.

  • Can be processed by cutting, slicing, lamination, laser cutting and die cutting.

Why Choose Adhesive-Backed Open Cell EPDM Foam?

Adding adhesive backing to open cell EPDM foam can make installation easier when the foam needs to remain in position during assembly. The release liner is removed before installation, allowing the foam component to be placed onto a suitable clean surface.

Adhesive backing is especially useful for automotive components, electronic assemblies, equipment housings, appliance parts and industrial production lines where foam strips, cushioning pads or gaskets need to be positioned accurately before final assembly.

Because different substrates and operating environments can require different adhesive performance, customers should provide the bonding surface, application temperature, installation method and service environment when requesting a quotation.

What Is Open Cell EPDM Foam with Adhesive?

Open cell EPDM sponge rubber foam with adhesive backing

EPDM stands for Ethylene Propylene Diene Monomer. EPDM foam is a synthetic rubber sponge material valued for flexibility, durability and good resistance to ageing, sunlight, UV exposure, ozone and weathering.

Open cell EPDM contains interconnected internal cells. This structure allows the foam to compress easily and conform to uneven surfaces, making it useful for cushioning, sound absorption, vibration damping and low-compression applications.

For this product, an adhesive layer and release liner can be laminated onto the EPDM foam to simplify installation. The foam can then be converted into rolls, sheets, strips, tapes, pads and customized gasket shapes.

Topsun provides cutting, slicing, lamination, adhesive backing, laser cutting and die-cutting services, allowing OEM buyers to source both EPDM foam material and customized converted components from one supplier.

Adhesive Open Cell EPDM Foam Customization Options

Adhesive-backed EPDM foam can be customized according to the installation method and finished component requirements. Providing complete application information helps determine the appropriate foam density, thickness and processing method.

Customization Item Available Options
Foam Density Multiple density grades according to compression and cushioning requirements.
Thickness Customized according to installation space and required compression.
Product Format Sheets, rolls, strips, tapes, pads, gaskets and custom foam parts.
Adhesive Backing Pressure-sensitive adhesive lamination with release liner according to application requirements.
Custom Shape Parts can be cut or die-cut according to drawings, dimensions or samples.
Further Processing Cutting, slicing, lamination, laser cutting, die cutting, engraving and printing.

Open Cell vs. Closed Cell EPDM Foam

Open cell and closed cell EPDM foams are not interchangeable. The correct structure should be selected according to compression, cushioning, acoustic and environmental sealing requirements.

Comparison Open Cell EPDM Closed Cell EPDM
Cell Structure Interconnected cells Predominantly sealed cells
Compression Soft and easy to compress Typically firmer
Typical Uses Cushioning, sound absorption, vibration damping and low-compression components Environmental seals, weather stripping and moisture-resistant gaskets
Adhesive Backing Available for easier positioning and assembly Also available depending on product design

If your application requires a strict air or water barrier, please provide the required sealing conditions before selecting the foam. Closed-cell EPDM is generally more suitable than open-cell material for demanding environmental sealing applications.

Open Cell EPDM Foam with Adhesive FAQ

What is open cell EPDM foam with adhesive?

Open cell EPDM foam with adhesive is a soft EPDM sponge rubber with an adhesive layer and release liner laminated to the foam. It combines the low-compression and cushioning characteristics of open cell EPDM with easier positioning during installation and assembly.

What is adhesive-backed open cell EPDM foam used for?

Common uses include automotive gaskets, anti-rattle pads, electronic cushioning, appliance components, HVAC parts, vibration damping, sound absorption, industrial assembly, packaging protection and customized foam components.

What is the advantage of adhesive backing on EPDM foam?

Adhesive backing helps keep the foam in position during installation, making assembly faster and reducing movement before the final component is assembled. Adhesive performance depends on the surface, temperature and service conditions.

Can Topsun customize the adhesive for different surfaces?

Topsun provides pressure-sensitive adhesive lamination for foam products. When requesting a quotation, provide the bonding substrate, operating environment, temperature conditions and installation method so the adhesive requirement can be evaluated.

Can adhesive EPDM foam be supplied as strips or tapes?

Yes. Open cell EPDM foam can be converted into adhesive-backed sheets, rolls, strips, tapes, pads and customized components according to customer dimensions and application requirements.

Can Topsun make custom adhesive EPDM foam gaskets?

Yes. Topsun can cut, laminate, laser cut and die cut EPDM foam according to customer drawings, dimensions or physical samples. Customized adhesive-backed gaskets and pads can be produced for OEM and industrial applications.

Is open cell EPDM foam waterproof?

Open cell foam contains interconnected pores, so it should not automatically be treated as a waterproof or airtight barrier. If your application requires strict protection against water or air migration, provide the sealing conditions so the appropriate EPDM foam structure can be selected.

What is the difference between open cell and closed cell EPDM foam?

Open cell EPDM is softer and easier to compress and is commonly selected for cushioning, acoustic treatment, vibration damping and low-compression applications. Closed cell EPDM is generally better suited to applications requiring stronger resistance to moisture and environmental sealing.

How do I choose the correct EPDM foam density and thickness?

The correct specification depends on the installation gap, compression percentage, required softness, cushioning performance, part dimensions, adhesive requirement and operating environment. Providing these details helps Topsun evaluate a suitable material.

What information should I send for a quotation?

Please provide the required thickness, density if known, width and length, adhesive requirement, application, bonding surface, drawing or dimensions, estimated quantity and any special performance requirements.

How can I get samples of open cell EPDM foam with adhesive?

Send your requirements to july@topsunfoam.com. Please include the required foam thickness, density, dimensions, adhesive requirement, application and estimated order quantity so Topsun can evaluate the appropriate sample.
