Product Description

Waterproof Low Density Closed Cell PVC Foam for Sealing and Gaskets

Topsun waterproof low density PVC foam is a soft, compressible closed cell PVC sponge material designed for sealing against light, dust and water when properly compressed. It is suitable for door and window seals, automotive body seals, HVAC systems, appliance sealing, electronic equipment, outdoor lighting and custom die-cut gaskets.

This P090 PVC foam has a density of 95±10 kg/m³ and can be supplied in thicknesses from 0.5 mm to 25 mm. Its low-density structure provides low compression force, flexibility and conformability, allowing the foam to follow curves, corners and irregular surfaces.

Topsun can convert closed cell PVC foam into sheets, rolls, strips, tapes, pads, gaskets and other custom foam components. Cutting, slicing, lamination, adhesive backing, laser cutting and die cutting are available according to drawings, samples and application requirements.

Low Density Closed Cell PVC Foam Features

Why Use Low Density PVC Foam for Sealing?

Low density PVC foam requires relatively low force to compress, making it useful where thin panels, plastic housings, metal enclosures or other components should not be subjected to excessive sealing pressure.

The closed-cell structure and soft surface allow the foam to follow irregular gaps when compressed. This helps create continuous contact between mating surfaces in door frames, equipment panels, HVAC assemblies and vehicle components.

Sealing performance depends on joint design, foam thickness, compression percentage, fastener spacing and the condition of the contact surfaces. Customers should provide these details when the application requires a defined water, air or dust seal.

What Is Closed Cell PVC Sponge Foam?

Waterproof low density closed cell PVC sponge foam

Polyvinyl chloride foam, commonly called PVC foam or PVC sponge foam, is a cellular PVC material used for sealing, gasketing, cushioning and vibration-control applications.

This product uses a closed-cell structure designed to provide an economical sealing solution against light, air, moisture and dust when appropriately compressed in the finished assembly.

PVC foam properties can be adjusted through material density, hardness, thickness and resilience. Topsun supplies PVC foam products covering different density and hardness ranges for different sealing, cushioning and assembly requirements.

Typical applications include vehicle body vibration damping, door and window seals, water tank sealing, HVAC seals, electronic product cushioning and customized gasket components.

Closed Cell PVC Foam vs. Open Cell Foam

Cell structure is an important consideration when selecting foam for sealing. Closed cell PVC foam contains predominantly isolated cells, which makes it more suitable for water, air and dust sealing than open-cell materials in many compressed gasket applications.

Comparison Closed Cell PVC Foam Open Cell Foam
Cell Structure Predominantly closed cells Interconnected cells
Typical Function Sealing, gasketing, weather protection and cushioning Sound absorption, cushioning and soft gap filling
Water Sealing Suitable for many compressed water-sealing applications Generally not selected as the first choice for strict water sealing
Typical Products Gaskets, weather strips, sealing tapes and die-cut seals Acoustic pads, cushioning and vibration-control components

Custom PVC Foam Sheet, Strip, Tape and Gasket Options

Topsun can supply low density PVC foam as raw material or convert it into components ready for assembly. Customers can provide drawings, samples or finished dimensions for evaluation.

Customization Available Options
Thickness 0.5–25 mm for this product range.
Product Format Sheets, rolls, strips, tapes, pads, gaskets and custom foam parts.
Cut Size Custom width, length and finished dimensions according to project requirements.
Adhesive Backing Pressure-sensitive adhesive and release liner can be laminated for suitable applications.
Custom Shape Laser-cut or die-cut parts according to drawings, samples or dimensions.
Lamination Hot-melt film, flame lamination and pressure-sensitive adhesive lamination.

How to Select Low Density PVC Foam for Sealing

The correct PVC foam specification depends on the finished joint rather than thickness alone. Buyers should consider compression percentage, gap size, environmental exposure, sealing requirement and assembly method.

For a new project, provide the required thickness, dimensions, compression gap, application location, sealing requirement, adhesive requirement, temperature conditions and drawing or sample. This information helps determine whether the P090 low density PVC foam is appropriate for the application.

If the foam will be used as a waterproof gasket, also provide the joint structure and expected compression so that sealing performance can be evaluated under the actual assembly conditions.

Low density closed cell PVC foam is a soft, compressible polyvinyl chloride sponge material used for sealing, gasketing, cushioning and vibration-control applications. Its closed-cell structure makes it suitable for many applications requiring resistance to light, dust, air and moisture penetration.

Is this PVC foam waterproof?

The P090 PVC foam is designed for water-sealing applications, and the existing product specification states that approximately 30% compression provides an effective seal against light, dust and water. Actual waterproof performance also depends on joint design, compression and installation conditions.

What is the density of this low density PVC foam?

The specified density of this P090 closed cell PVC foam is 95±10 kg/m³ according to ASTM D1667.

What thicknesses are available?

This low density PVC foam product is available in thicknesses from 0.5 mm to 25 mm. Finished thickness should be selected according to the gap and expected compression in the assembled component.
