IXPE is irradiation cross-linked polyethylene foam. The cross-linking process creates a fine, consistent closed-cell foam structure that combines low weight, resilience, cushioning, low water absorption and good converting performance.
IXPE foam can be selected in different expansion ratios and densities. Higher-density grades provide greater support and mechanical strength, while lower-density grades are typically selected where lightweight cushioning, insulation and conformability are more important.
The material can be supplied in sheet form and processed into laminated structures, adhesive-backed parts, die-cut pads, protective inserts, molded components and other customized foam products.
| Application | Typical Use |
| Automotive Interiors | Door panels, roof and interior cushioning, HVAC components, sound and vibration-control layers and custom formed foam parts. |
| Electronics | Protective cushioning, component spacers, pads, packaging inserts and laminated foam components. |
| Precision Packaging | Shock-absorbing liners, inserts and protective packaging for instruments, semiconductors and electronic products. |
| HVAC and Refrigeration | Thermal insulation, cushioning and laminated insulation components. |
| Construction | Flooring underlayment, insulation, cushioning layers and other building material applications. |
| Sports and Leisure | Cushioning layers, protective pads and formed foam components. |
| Industrial Components | Die-cut pads, adhesive-backed parts, gaskets, spacers, laminates and custom molded foam components. |
Expansion ratio is an important purchasing parameter for IXPE foam because it is directly related to density, hardness and mechanical performance. The technical table shows grades from 3× to 40× expansion, corresponding to densities from approximately 300 kg/m³ down to about 26 kg/m³.
Lower expansion ratios produce denser and generally firmer foam with higher tensile and tear strength. Higher expansion ratios produce lighter and softer foam that is often selected for cushioning, insulation and lightweight applications.
Buyers should select a grade according to required support, compression behavior, thickness, weight, thermal performance and processing method rather than choosing by density alone.
IXPE foam has an independent closed-cell structure that helps reduce heat transfer caused by air convection. The supplied technical table shows thermal conductivity values that vary according to expansion ratio and density.
This makes IXPE suitable for insulation layers in HVAC systems, refrigeration equipment, construction materials and other assemblies where lightweight thermal insulation and moisture resistance are required.
IXPE is a semi-rigid foam material with cushioning and recovery characteristics. Different densities can be selected to protect electronics, instruments, components and other products during handling, assembly and transportation.
Foam can be die-cut, punched, engraved or laminated to produce inserts and protective components that match the shape of the packaged product.
IXPE foam is used in automotive interior and equipment applications requiring lightweight cushioning, thermal insulation, sound and vibration control or custom formed components.
Its even density and processability allow IXPE to be hot-pressed, thermoformed, laminated, embossed and die-cut for interior panels, HVAC-related components, pads and other converted automotive foam parts.
Topsun can process IXPE foam according to the required finished shape, structure and assembly method.
Hot Press Molding: heated foam is placed into a shaped mold, pressed and cooled to form the required component geometry.
Thermoforming: sheet or roll material can be heated and formed into three-dimensional parts for suitable applications.
Thermal Bonding: IXPE can be heat-bonded or combined with other suitable materials to create laminated structures.
Punching and Die Cutting: foam can be converted into customer-required shapes using hydraulic punching, dies or CNC processing.
Lamination: IXPE can be laminated with other materials according to the required insulation, surface or assembly function.
Embossing: surface patterns can be formed by roller processing for suitable product requirements.
Adhesive Backing: pressure-sensitive adhesive and release liner can be applied for easier positioning and assembly.
Printing and Cutting: the material can be printed, slit, cut and carved according to finished product requirements.
IXPE foam should be selected according to the performance required in the finished product. For industrial purchasing, provide the following information when requesting a material recommendation or quotation.
